TEACHING OF HISTORY TO THE OFFSPRINGS, VERY SACROSANCT TO UPHOLDING THE BEAUTY OF CULTURE - OLOFIN CHARGES AS LASRAB VISIT, LAUDS GOV. SANWOOLU'S MOVES ON REVIVING HISTORY
The Arole Olofin Ogunfunminire and Adimula of the Source of Awori Kingdoms, His Royal Majesty, Alayeluwa Oba (Engr.) Sulaiman Adekunle Bamgbade, Ayodele Edun Alaka III, Olofin of Isheri, has charged both the government at all levels and the parents to always endeavor to inculcate the very important habit of teaching histories and knowledge of family and origin backgrounds to their offsprings at all times.
Alayeluwa Olofin Asholesha made this point of call on Wednesday, 11th of January, 2023 at his ancient Palace in Isheri Olofin, while playing a host of a government delegation from the Lagos State Records and Archives Bureau (LASRAB) led by the Director of Archives, Mr. Ojo Olusola.
Arole Olofin Ogunfunminire in his Royal remarks appreciated the agency for visiting the ancient Palace of the Aworis and for deeming it fit to seek clarifications on the rich history of our people to the ownership of Lagos and parts of Ogun State. Together we have embarked on an important mission to reconnect with the true history of our origin. As Aworis we are all undoubtedly the children of Olofin Ogunfunminire with Isheri as the source, as such, with this sense of responsibility, we would rather take part in joining hands with every other progressive-minded persons or groups that are ready to work towards strengthening the traditional, cultural, tourist, social, as well as economic advancements.
In the same vein, "we must also ensure to always defend the facts behind the great influence of the Aworis in the ancestral and early creation of Lagos and Ogun, which can not be underestimated. On this note, I must commend the purposeful initiative of His Excellency, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu, the Executive Governor of Lagos State, for finding it worthy to revive and reintroduce the teaching of history back of the School Curriculum, and also for the establishment of this agency (LASRAB) that will see to the gathering of facts and complication of histories in Lagos. This kind of move will no doubt play a key role in preserving our history, culture and traditions for a better understanding of our offsprings and the future generations yet unborn. And it is also one worthy of emulation by all other State governments and most especially the federal government directly from the top." Olofin expressed.
The Bureau Director of Archives, Mr. Ojo Olusola who led the delegation to the Palace, appreciated the highly revered Olofin for the warm welcome while explaining that the Lagos State Records and Archives Bureau is an agency mandated with the responsibility of permanent custody, regulation and control of records and archives of the Lagos State Government, the Local Governments and other archives or historical records of entities operating within the State. As part of its statutory responsibility, the Bureau ensures the acquisition and preservation of records and assets of enduring value that promote and sustain the heritage of the State.
He further explained that the Lagos State agency officials were on a mission to the Palace to seek historical facts and enlightenment on the historic relationship of the Aworis in the establishment and origin of Lagos, with Olofin Oghnfunminire as the founder & Isheri being the first settlement /cradle of all Aworis, he said the delegation also seem to find historical artifacts that can be helpful in practically demonstrating the archival history, culture and traditions as it relates to lagos, the said artifacts are expected to be showcased and displayed at the new Lagos museum.
Olofin Asholesha in his Royal magnanimity bequeathed the LASRAB officials with artifacts and archival documents that will help ease their mission in the journey of historical compilation while he also donated an ancient boat “Oko Aje”. Alayeluwa also appreciated the agency for presenting him with a portrait and a book that was recently launched by the agency titled "The Story of Aina On Iddo Island".
