The Coalition of Ibese Indigenous people under the auspices of Ibese Progressive Union (IPU) on Wednesday urged the Governor of Ogun State, His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, and well meaning leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to consider zoning the ticket of the next Yewa North Local Government Chairman, as the longstanding marginalization of Ibese community is becoming unacceptable.
In a democratic government, it is imperative to always consider fairness and equity in the zoning of elective positions. Hence, as we approach Ogun State Chairmanship elections for the local governments, it would only be just and fair for Ibese Town to be considered as the next community to produce the Chairmanship candidate from Ibese Ward.
They added that this disparity calls for urgent attention to enable every community to benefit equally from the dividends of democracy. In a sane and balance democratic setting, the rotation and sharing formula of elective and appointment should revolve between the axes of Ibese town and Igbogila that makes up Ibese ward. But unfortunately all positions has always been hijacked by the powers that be in Igbogila axes.
The group therefore urged Governor Dapo Abiodun to as a matter of urgency look into this monumental error for correction in the forthcoming LG elections in the state by ensuring that the flag bearer of the party chairmanship candidate is chosen particularly from Ibese Town in Ibese Ward.
It is worthy to note that before the advent of democracy in Nigeria, the Igbogila axes has always been using the name "Ibese ward" to hijack all political benefits to Igbogila, despite being the capital of the ward, Ibese town has always been marginalized for only God knows reason, Ibese town has had almost no representation in the ward political sharing setting, because the Igbogila axes claim to have all the leaders of the ward.
This reason has resulted to unnecessary oppositions from the Igbogila axes which has enjoyed prolonged dominance, over the capital town (Ibese), by trying to rip off Ibese people of political interest, as all political elective and appointment positions as we speak are all from the Igbogila axis. Infact, this incumbent administration is enough evidence to solidified our claim of imbalance.
Ibese Town has also suffered from unequal distribution of developmental projects and resources, as no project whatsoever from across all levels of government has been considered to be commissioned since a very long time.
As a Community we are hereby urging Governor Dapo Abiodun and other relevant party leaders with good conscience to acknowledge the gravity of this situation for considerable corrections to start taking effect from now on, as we would no longer take this level of cheat and marginalization any longer.
We appeal that the local government chairmanship candidate for the fast approaching elections should be considered from Ibese town as we understand that the rotation setting is coming to Ibese ward. This would not only help address past inequities but also pave the way for a more balanced democratic system in our local government.
The scenario where Senator Solomon Adeola Olamilekan Yayi, the Senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District, promised Ibese Town a transformer and other projects, and after being released was hijacked to Igbogila would no longer be tolerated under disguise of Ibese ward.
Ibese Town is the capital of Ibese Ward as recognized by the constitution of the federal Republic of Nigeria, and must henceforth be recognized as such.
Ibese Town is Ibese Ward.
Ibese Ward is Ibese Town.
