Fulani Invasion: Monarch Ban Open Grazing, Seek Gov. Abiodun's Intervention
Fulani Invasion: Aboro of Ibese Intervene, Ban Open Grazing, Urges Government To Strengthen Local Security Network
In his extreme passion towards ensuring peaceful coexistence and stabilized security architecture within Ibese land and its environs, His Royal Majesty, Alayeluwa Oba Rotimi Oluseyi Mulero, Arole Asakanran, Olokojobi III, the Aboro of Ibese Land, has intervened to address issues between farmers and Fulani herdsmen in his domain.
In his swift response to the alarming situation that was likely to result to communal clash, His Majesty has convened an all inclusive meeting with representatives from Yewa North Local Government, Ibese Farmers Association, Fulani herders Community, Security agencies as well as other relevant stakeholders at his palace on Wednesday 29th January, 2025.
Oba Mulero opened engagement of farmers and herders where conflict situations and several complaints were tendered by palace chiefs, villages heads (Baales), and farmers representatives, as challenges bedeviling Ibese and other villages were brought to table for constructive dialogue in order to arrive at optimum resolutions.
The foremost monarch at the strategic meeting explicitly emphasized on the multilingual nature and the fundamental rights of every citizens to reside at their choice of destination as enshrined in the constitution of the country, but such privileges are not to be taken for granted or taken as an opportunity to trample upon farmers rights to work peacefully at their farm settlements.
The meeting therefore resolve with the authority of His Majesty, the Aboro of Ibese Land, that open grazing or rearing of cattle is henceforth placed on ban in accordance with Ogun State anti-open grazing law 2021, within Ibese Land and its environs and anyone found defaulting this order would face the full wrath of the law.
Recall that Ogun State Governor in year 2021 signed the Anti-Open Grazing Bill in Ogun State into law. The law which prohibits the open rearing and grazing of livestock in any part of the State, except in designated areas, instead of eliminating the usual attendant clashes between livestock herders and crop farmers as a result of open grazing is yet not having any effect.
Reacting to the viral video of Female farmers, who trooped out to protest against the reoccurring destruction of their farms, Oba Rotimi reiterated on the rights of every citizens to peacefully protest in demonstration of their grievances. As such, the farmers are entitled to their rights because we understand that they have been pushed to the wall by the excesses and confrontational nature of these Fulani herdsmen.
Hence, our urgent appeal to Ogun State government under the led administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun, Security agencies and all other relevant authorities to as a matter of urgency come to the rescue of Ibese farmers from the hands of these Fulani herders in order to collectively confront and repel the dreaded Fulani Herdsmen in Ibese Community and its environs, who have been victimizing and threatening the peace and orderliness of the community through mass destruction of properties and farm lands to mention a few. It is also very important for our government at all levels to empower our local securities (e.g hunters, so safe corps, Amotekun corps) who have in-depth knowledge about the nooks and crannies of every community as the safety and security of our community are indeed our collective responsibilities.
This menace of grazing cattle around our communities is insane and must be condemned outrightly, and our government must ensure it is stopped for peace to reign.
This will further help Ogun State government efforts towards sustaining uptimum peaceful coexistence and food security in the state.
